DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

  • fellowship in one of the most beautiful places on earth

The world of education has become complicated. This is not to say that such areas as the documentation of outcomes is not important. Understanding how to document children’s progress is important, but it is not our main objective, rather a healthy by-product. The use of appropriate techniques, curriculum, and philosophy needs to be discussed, but it should not be our main focus. Choosing an appropriate assessment tool is an important decision, but it cannot be the engine which powers the vehicle. The teaching of math, language, science, and social-emotional skills is of the utmost importance, but that alone does not create success in a child. Improving the classroom and home learning environment is something we all need to be aware of, but it is only one piece of a larger puzzle.

As a very small child I had a wonderful piano teacher who taught me many things. However, he didn’t teach me any Bach, Beethoven, or Brahms. While he taught me many important fundamentals in music the most important thing he taught me was “that I can.”

All the knowledge retained from the most amazing collective group of humans would mean nothing to a young child who does not believe that he or she could achieve anything with that knowledge. We must teach our children that greatness lies within them. To do this we must engage the imagination of our children and engage them as life long learners. To accomplish this we must remember that learning can in fact…be fun!

You will benefit in many ways by attending our conferences on a regular basis. I look forward to meeting you in person!
